Service Description

CLASS DESCRIPTION: Babble and Books is an SLP-led infant class designed for babies ages 0–12 months and their caregivers. Sarah Jordan from Little Monkeys Speech and Feeding Therapy will be leading us through our four weeks together. Through guided play, shared book experiences, songs, and purposeful play, we will help support your little one's early language, social connections, communication, and reading foundations. Caregivers learn how to play with intention—using simple, evidence-based strategies to encourage eye contact, turn-taking, gestures, babbling, and first words. Each class models developmentally appropriate play and reading techniques that parents can easily carry over into daily routines at home. This class emphasizes a relationship-based approach to communication, recognizing that language grows through movement, connection, and meaningful interaction. Class topics may vary based on ages of enrollment and individual children attending the class. A broad overview of class topics is provided below. Class 1: How to use books to support joint attention. Picking the “right books” for infants based on age. Modeling gestures, sounds, and early turn taking. Class 2: Building early conversations through play. Songs and movement based play. Vocal play and imitation. Class 3: Play with purpose. Learn about the types of play that evolve during the first year. Using waiting strategies to encourage play. Following the baby in play. Class 4: Communication grows from connection. Reading baby cues and honoring communication attempts. Using daily routine activities to support communication. Creating language-rich environments at home. Focusing on shared joy.

Note to Parents and Caregivers/Waiver: At Read Play Love, we recognize that accidents and unforeseen situations can occur during children's activities. As children engage in various play and learning experiences, physical and emotional challenges may arise. We all know incidents can happen: Children jostle each other, fall down, even land on each other. They spill things, get their clothes dirty and sometimes skin their knees and elbows. Some kids push, hit, kick, punch or may even scratch or bite their playmates while working through their emotions. Feelings also can get hurt without any physical harm. Even reading can become a “contact sport” when children are vying for attention. Despite careful supervision and the best intentions, children can sometimes act unpredictably, and occasional incidents may happen, resulting in these types of physical or emotional harm. By enrolling your child in Read Play Love programs, you acknowledge that such incidents may occur as part of the natural course of childhood development and agree you will not to hold Read Play Love, and its employees and volunteers, responsible for any negligence that might result in such physical harm, emotional distress, or damage to your child’s belongings. Additionally, if your child causes harm to another participant, you agree to take responsibility and hold Read Play Love harmless. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in ensuring a positive and safe experience for all children. By enrolling in the program, you acknowledge and agree to these policies.
